Circular economy business from wood is a Sitra funded project launched in summer 2018 and ending September 2019. In the project we are testing out a workshop model for rapid experimentation and innovation. Using this model, forestry companies, designers and marketers are developing together new business ideas for wood products. During the project, we are also studying the opportunities for developing the circular economy of wood products as well as implementing a new wood product life-cycle calculator and designing a circular economy marketing concept which will be available for all companies to use.

In addition, the companies participating in the project are developing together wood products that make use of technology in new ways. The goal is to create new, circular economy business activities in Finland and at the same time boost Finland’s international competitiveness.

This exhibition also features products from Crops4Luxury -project.

September 7th & 8th, 2017 Helsinki Design Week

VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland Ltd is hosting a design contest on bio-based materials of the future during Helsinki Design Week. We will invite 20–30 designers to join a hackathon to work on a selection of new materials developed at VTT and create and demonstrate novel design solutions for consumer and industrial use.

The New Biomateriality Lab presents new Finnish biomaterials, mainly based on wood. All materials have been invented and produced in multidisciplinary research projects. The exhibition is coordinated by Aalto University’s CHEMARTS collaboration and participating projects are DWoC, NoMa, Hiilinielu Designstudio and Trash2Cash. The main partners are Aalto University, VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland, Technical University of Tampere, Universities of Applied Sciences in Lahti and Tampere, University of Vaasa and Design Forum Finland, in collaboration with various companies, funded by Tekes and EU. The Cellulife workshop is a one-day intensive design-driven project addressed to designers, business people, and scientists, aiming to explore and visualize future applications of cellulose.

Showroom is a new Helsinki Design Week event in design, spatial design and lighting, targeted at professionals. The event is organised and produced in cooperation with the Habitare fair at Messukeskus in Helsinki.
